Looking for the ultimate family-friendly Saturday in Western Mass? Rev up your engines and clear your calendars! On Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Central Chevrolet is transforming our lot into a heavy-machinery playground for the local community.
Our Touch A Truck event is a free, hands-on experience designed specifically for kids (and the young at heart) to explore the massive vehicles they usually only see from a distance. If your little one is obsessed with construction, public safety, or just anything with “big tires,” this is the place to be.
A Special Guest: Boomer from the Springfield Thunderbirds!
We are thrilled to announce a very special guest appearance! Boomer, the lovable mascot of the Springfield Thunderbirds, will be joining us from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Whether he’s high-fiving the kids or “testing out” the driver’s seat of an excavator, Boomer always brings the energy. Don’t forget to bring your camera for a photo op with Western Mass’s favorite thunderbird!
What to Expect
We’ve gathered a fleet of the coolest rigs in West Springfield to give your children a front-row seat to the action. This isn’t just a “look but don’t touch” kind of day. We encourage kids to:
- Climb into the driver’s seat of massive excavators and dump trucks.
- Honk the horns (fair warning to the parents!) of local emergency vehicles.
- Learn how they work by talking to the experts who operate these machines every day.
- Snap photos with the fleet and Boomer—perfect for those childhood scrapbooks!

Events like these are more than just a fun afternoon; they are a great way for kids to engage with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in a real-world setting.
